Kora Moya Rojo

Kora Moya Rojo (born in 1993 in Cartagena, Spain; lives and works in Mexico City) is a visual artist whose paintings delve into the exploration of identity, migration, and belonging. Through the depiction of sensual, organic forms that merge floral, vegetal, and culinary elements, she constructs narratives rich in divine meaning and utopian aspirations.

Using a vibrant palette and an amalgam of watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint, Moya Rojo incorporates autobiographical, historical, architectural, and religious imagery infused with a rural sensibility. Initially employing digital techniques, she meticulously develops dreamlike scenes on her canvases that blur the boundary between interior and exterior space. Moya Rojo’s works soften the artificiality of human-made constructions by merging them with the natural world, allowing each element to flow weightlessly. Her compositions evoke still lifes with a surrealist sensibility, incorporating endemic plants and ritualistic elements charged with symbolic meaning. Despite their seemingly static appearance, Moya Rojo’s paintings radiate life and resonate with an energy that transcends earthly realms. Through continuous metamorphosis, the internal and external forces within her paintings render the familiar strange and the strange unsettlingly familiar.
