Yvonne Venegas
She graduated from the International Center of Photography in New York and obtained a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, San Diego. She has exhibited in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, France, Canada, Poland, and Russia. She has participated in collective exhibitions such as “Pulsions Urbaines” at Rencontres d’Arles, “Point Counterpoint” at MoPA, and “Mexican Photography” at SFMOMA. She has had solo exhibitions at the Shoshana Wayne Gallery in Santa Monica, Díaz Contemporary in Toronto, Casa de América in Madrid, Carrillo Gil Art Museum in Mexico City, and Baxter Gallery in New York.
Her work was awarded at the X Photography Biennial of the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City. She received the Magnum Expression Award 2010 from the Magnum Photos agency and was a member of the National Creators System of the Fonca in 2011 and 2015. Her project “Gestus” was published by Editorial RM with the support of the Bancomer Foundation grant in 2015.
She was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2016 for the realization of her project “San Pedro Garza García.” She has published three other monographs of her work: “María Elvia de Hank” (2010), “Inédito” (2012), and more recently, “San Pedro Garza García” (2019), as well as the catalog for her exhibition “Nunca será más joven que este día” (2012, INBA).
